Beyer, Mr./ Mrs. William (50th Anniv. June 1925) Photo was enclosed in the article

On Thursday, June 18th a large gathering of relatives and friends united in helping Mr. and Mrs. William Beyer celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. Service in honor of the event were held at the Pine Valley Lutheran Church in the forenoon, the entire congregation being invited to attend. The church was beautifully decorated for the event. The pastor, Rev. Reiff, read Psalm No. 103, and preached a sermon especially appropriate to the occasion. All in attendance were much impressed by this fine address. After the services there was a reception at the old Beyer home in Pine Valley, now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Beyer, Jr., given to relatives and old friends of the aged couple. A bountiful dinner was served, over 10 guests being in attendance. Mendelsohn’s wedding march was played by Mrs. W. S. Cutter, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Beyer, who came from Portland, Oregon, to be present. Mrs. Cutter is a trained musician and has much natural talent. In addition to her selections, music was furnished by the Hatton Orchestra during the noon hour and at intervals during the afternoon. Mr. Fred Wagner of Pine Valley acted as toast master. A gold medal for Mr. and Mrs. Beyer, the gift of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Edwards, prominent people of Portland, Oregon, was presented, and other gifts of gold coin by the guests. The entire day was one of joy and satisfaction for all.

Mr. and Mrs. Beyer are pioneers of this locality. They were both born in Germany, and came to this country with their respective families in 1867. These families lived in Milwaukee for two years and then came to Clark County. Here six years later, in June, 1875, Mr. and Mrs. Beyer were married, Mrs. Beyer’s maiden name being Gustina Puttkamer. They settled upon the land Mr. Beyer had bought in North Pine Valley. This was a place of 80 acres originally, but was increased from time to time by purchase until their holdings were 440 acres. They continued to live upon and develop this farm till 1908 when they went west and lived recently in Portland, Oregon. The home farm, which has always been occupied by some members of the family was purchased some years ago by the son, Wm. Beyer Jr. It is quite probable that Mr. and Mrs. Beyer will remain here, making their home with their different children during the remainder of their lives. They have always been a credit to this community, doing faithfully their duties in life and it is the hope of all their friends that they will spend their declining days here.

Mr. and Mrs. Beyer have eleven living children, seven sons and four daughters, namely:

Mrs. Wm. Wagner, Neillsville; Oscar Beyer, Wausau; Mrs. Ben Wagner, Neillsville; Wm. F. Beyer, Pine Valley; Mrs. Theodore Linster, town of Weston; Herman Beyer, Greenwood; August Beyer, Globe; Elmer, Carl, Albert and Mrs. W. S. Cutter all of Portland, Oregon. They have also 25 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. One son Oscar and several of the grandchildren were not here when the family photo was taken and do not appear in the picture shown above. All the children were born in the old home in Pine Valley and have become people of good standing wherever they live. Several of the sons had exceptional musical talent and received considerable training, for a number of years maintaining a fine family orchestra; the daughter, Mrs. Cutter, mentioned above, is a graduate of the A. C. of Music in Portland and has received papers of high standing from Dr. Emil Enna, a noted teacher of concert work and composer. She plans to return here and take up music teaching.

Thus in the evening of life, Mr. and Mrs. Beyer can see with pleasure and satisfaction the generations of their descendants taking places of usefulness in the world, and it is the hope of all who know them that they May have still some years of comfortable life ahead of them.
