Kurth, Richard (9 AUG 1861 - 9 OCT 1924)

Richard Kurth, one of the oldest residents on the Ridge road in the town of Grant, Clark County, Wis., died at his farm home Oct. 9, 1924, aged 63 years and 2 months. He was born at West Bend, Wis., Aug. 9, 1861, being the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Robert Kurth. They moved here with their family in 1873 and established their home at what has since been known as Kurth's Corners. Here Richard grew to manhood and in 1884 was married to Miss Ottillie Schultz of the town of Grant. They settled later on their land a mile east of the home place and there developed a fine farm. Mr. Kurth was a man of industry and enterprise, building up one of the finest farm properties in his community. He was a man of integrity and had the confidence of all who knew him. He took an active interest in local affairs and was elected treasurer of his town for a number of terms. In all the walks of life he did well the work that came to his hands to do.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife and three children: Elsie, Mrs. Alvin Grassman of Lynn; Arthur, living in the town of Grant and Hilton at home. He leaves also four grandchildren. He is survived by two brothers, Robert Kurth of Neillsville and William Kurth of the town of Grant; two sisters, Mrs. George Wilding living in California, and Mrs. Fred Hantke in the town of York.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon at Rev. Reiff's church, Rev. Reiff, assisted by Rev. Koch of Nasonville, officiating.

The pallbearers were David Hillert, Henry Winters, Gus Beilke, John Dietrich, Phillip Breseman and Ervin Grassman.

It was one of the largest funerals ever held in the town of Grant, the great assemblage of relatives and friends who came from far and near, testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held.
