Karnitz, Hannah (11 Sep 1834 - 17 Jul 1924)

Mrs. Fred Karnitz died at her home in Pine Valley July 17, 1924, aged 90 years, after a lingering illness of three months.

Deceased, whose maiden name was Hannah Bunka, was born in Lesteen, Germany, Sept. 11, 1834, and in the year 1856 she was married to Fred Karnitz. They came to America in 1873 and settled at Lake Bluff, Ill., where they lived three years. They then moved to Pine Valley, Clark County, Wis. in 1877, where she carried cheerfully the duties and burdens of a pioneer home.

She looked well to the needs of her family and was ever ready to give a helping hand when needed in the community. In later years her son, Fred Jr., took possession of the farm and she made her home with him.

Her husband died Aug. 20, 1917. To them were born nine children, of whom four survive, Carl William, Louis and Fred, also one son-in-law and three daughters-in-law, and two sisters, Mrs. Rosenthal of Lake Bluff, Ill., and Mrs. Volk of Marinette. She leaves also fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Sunday at Pine Valley Lutheran Church, Rev. Reiff officiating.

Those from away who attended the funeral are her sister, Mrs. Rosenthal and her daughter, Mrs. Lineburg of Lake Bluff, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Karnitz of Baldwin, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Durst and son of Rock Elm, Wis., and Mrs. Sudland of Minneapolis.
