Gardner, George (May 2, 1861 - June 8, 1935)

George Gardner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wolfurd Gardner, was born May 2, 1861, in the Town of Rodden, Canada. He passed away at 5:30 P.M., June 8th, 1935, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Heiking, in the Town of Eaton. His age was 74 years, 1 month and 6 days. In 1879 he came to Wisconsin and seven years later, was married to Miss Linda Johnson, of the Town of York, Clark County. To this union were born three children, Floyd Gardner of the Town of Beaver, Vera, now Mrs. Fred Heiking, Town of Eaton, and also one child who died in infancy. He was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church of Loyal, continuing in that relationship to the end of life. He leaves to mourn his departure, besides his wife, one son, one daughter, and five grandchildren, also one brother and two sisters, his mother and father, two sisters and one brother, having preceded him in death.

Good night, sleep well beloved, when the last slow dusk has fallen, and your steps no more make music on the empty upper floor and day is fully passed.

We who so lightly let you go alone, evening by evening, from our trustful sight into the mystery of sleep's unknown.

We need not fear, tonight Death is so gentle, dark will break to dawn, Love will be safe until the morning light.

Sleep well, good night. Nancy Byrd Turner

Funeral services were held form the M.E. Church, Loyal, Wednesday afternoon, June 12th, with interment in the Loyal Cemetery, Rev. A. N. Chapman officiating. The Tribune joins the many friends of the bereaved in extending sympathy.
