Ketelhut, August (18 Augl 1857 - 20 March 1922)

August Ketelhut died at his home in the city Monday morning, March 20, after an illness of several weekds. About two years ago he underwent an operation and never fully regained his health. Since the first of January he began to fail steadily, and did not leave the house to any extent and for the past two weekds he was confined to the house most of the time. Mr. Ketelhut was born in Germany, August 18, 1857. He grew to manhood there and in 1881 was married to Wilhelmina Pflughoeft. In 1885 they came to America and settled in Washington County; 20 years ago they came to Clark County and bought land in the town of Levis, which they developed into a good farm and which was their home until about two years ago when they came to Neillsville to live.

Mr. Ketelhut was an honest, upright man, noted for dealing fairly with his neighbors. He was accommodating and peaceable in the community and a kind father and husband in the home. He is survived by his wife and four children, seven children preceding him in death. The surviving children are a son, Richard Ketelhurt of Milwaukee and three daughters: Mrs. Ida Nickel of Marshfield, Mrs. Herman Meir of Levis and Mrs. Frank Luck of York. He leaves also six grandchildren.

The funeral takes place today (Thursday) at 1:15 p.m. at the house and at 2 o’clock at St. John’s Lutheran church, Rev. H. Brandt officiating. The son Richard of Milwaukee, who was home to see his father shortly before he died, is here to attend the funeral; the daughter, Mrs. Nickel of Marshfield was with her father several days preceding and at the time of his death.
