Mattie Evenson was born March 13, 1849, in Stange Hedemarken, Norway. She immigrated to America in March 1882, and was married Nov. 8, 1883, to Even Goodager at Eau Claire. They lived nine years in Trempealeau Co. and then five years in Eau Claire. On Nov. 7, 1896, she, with the family, settled on a farm in the town of Cleveland, Jackson Co., where she lived until her death, Oct. 27, 1924, at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 14 days. She leaves to mourn her death, a husband and two sons, Nels and Edward; two sisters in Norway, and one brother in Van Hook, N.D. Three daughters preceded her in death. She was baptized and confirmed in the Norwegian Lutheran Church. For the past twenty years she has been a sufferer, the last seven of which she was an invalid. The funeral was held at the home Wednesday, conducted by M. Kretschmer. Rev. C. F. Klein preached the sermon to a large number of sympathizing friends, and burial was in the Johnson Cemetery.
