Brooks, Beatrice (Marriage - 5 Nov 1913)

Mr. William G. Johnson of Oxford and Miss Beatrice Brooks were married at 1 o’clock p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1913 at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. George R. Brooks of Lynn, Clark County, Rev. Peckham of Grand Rapids officiating. Mr. Merrill Vroman of Oxford, a cousin of the groom, acted as best man and Miss Frances Brooks, the bride’s sister, was bridesmaid. Only relatives and near friends of the family were in attendance.

After the wedding dinner the bride and groom took the train at Granton for a trip to Minneapolis and St. Paul.

The bride is a most estimable young lady. She graduated from the Neillsville High School in the class of 1906 and after teaching in Clark County for some time, she went to South Dakota and taught school there for two years. She also took up a claim there, living on it and making the required improvements to secure patent.

The groom was brought up on a farm at Oxford. He came to Neillsville to attend high school, making his home with his sister, Mrs. George E. Crothers, and graduated in the class of 1905. Later he worked at home on the farm and had considerable experience in the potato business for the Johnson Bros., and later for the Starks Co. He then went to South Dakota and took up a claim, proving up last spring. His claim is near that of his bride’s, so that they were not only schoolmates, but have also gone through the western experience together. The past summer he has carried on the Johnson farm at Oxford. After their wedding trip they will return there to live on the home place. The writer has a keen interest in this young couple. They are young people of a fine type of intelligence and character, endowed with the education and experience to establish an ideal home. With them go the best wishes of many good friends.
