Larson, Elsie B. (21 Jan 1928 - 28 Jul 2002)

Elsie B. Larson, 74, Loyal, died on Sunday, Jul 28, 2002, at her home, following a long battle with cancer. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jul 31, at the Missionary Baptist Church, Greenwood. The Rev. David Sommerfeld officiated. Burial was in the Loyal Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jim Beaver, Jim Dux, Jim Kipp, Jim Wangen, Randy Meyer and David Fricke.

Elsie Betty Anderson was born on Jan. 21, 1928, in Chicago, to Elmer and Esther (nee Johansson) Anderson. She attended school in the Chicago area and graduated from Gage Park High School in 1945. After her schooling, she worked at the telephone company and Standard Oil in Chicago. She married Dennis W. Larson in 1947 in Chicago. They lived in the Merrill and Eau Claire areas from 1951-54. They farmed in the town of Loyal until retiring in 1996. She was instrumental in establishing the Adult Development Center in Willard, now located in Greenwood. She ran a daycare for those with special needs, was a driver for the special education department, and was a foster mother to three children. She was a member of the Chequamegon Bird Club and the International Crane Foundation, heading the Clark County chapter. She was a past member of the Westside Homemakers Club. She attended services at Missionary Baptist Church, Greenwood, and taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school for many years. Her interests included letter writing, bird watching, crossword puzzles, supporting the Marshfield hockey programs and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis, Loyal; three children, David (Sheila) Larson, Stafford, Va., Rebecca (Dale) Warren, Greenwood, and Don (Millie) Larson, Loyal; nine grandchildren, Christopher and Courtney Larson, Stafford, Va., Jessica (Paul) Kayhart, Loyal, Allison and Sara Warren, Greenwood, Joshua Larson, Marshfield and Dennis, Morgan and Charlie Larson, Loyal; one brother, H. Donald (Diane) Anderson, Wheaton, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Barbara Anderson, Rochester, N.Y.; and one brother-in-law, Robert Gorsky, LaGrange, Ill.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Edgar Anderson; and one sister, Evelyn Gorsky.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, assisted the family with arrangements.
