Herian, Anna (31 Mar 1839 - 1 May 1908)

Mrs. Jos. Herian died at her home south of the city (Neillsville, Clark County) at an early hour Friday morning, May 1, Although she has been an invalid for several years, suffering from a complication of diseases, the end came quite suddenly at last, only the day before her death she was able to be up and about the house. Deceased, whose maiden name was Anna Scharf, was born in Prussia, March 31, 1839. She came with her parents to this country when ten years of age, their home being in Washington Co., Wis. At the age of nineteen she married John Wilger, who was shot in the Civil War. In 1867 she was married to Joseph Herian, who survives her. They moved to Clark County in 1877, purchasing the farm which has been their home ever since. To her and her first husband two sons were born, one dying when a young boy, and the other, Nicholas C. Wilger lives in Neillsville. In the second family are three sons and three daughters, namely Mrs. Geo. Blakeslee of Minneapolis, Mrs. Ellsworth Maxwell of Pine Valley, Miss Minnie Herian who lives at home, Joseph W. residing in Neillsville, Henry at home and John also in Neillsville. Mrs. Herian was brought up in the catholic faith and all her life was a most pious, devout and faithful member of the church. She was devoted to her children, a kind and loving mother, a lover of her home and its surroundings, and a good and obliging neighbor. She had a special love and appreciation for flowers, and in her long illness, which she bore patiently to the end, her flowers and plants were a joy and solace to her. Fitting indeed, was the wealth of flowers upon her coffin, placed by those who knew her love for their beauty. The funeral was held at the catholic Church on Monday, Rev. Dorrenbach officiating, a large concourse of the friends and neighbors filling the church to do honor to the memory of the deceased.
